Short-Term Rehabilitation

The Hannah B.G. Shaw Home, a leading innovator in delivery of care, is excited to announce the opening of its Short-Term Rehabilitation Center. The Center can deliver quality inpatient services for those recovering from post-acute and post-surgical conditions including orthopedic, stroke, cardiac and other complex short-term rehabilitation needs.

In contrast to the more traditional, institutional healthcare facilities, the Hannah Shaw Home’s Rehab Center offers spacious private rooms with private bathrooms surrounded by attractive indoor and outdoor features promoting health, well-being and recovery. Every room has a flat screen television, WI-FI Internet access, cable and telephone service. Respect, dignity and choice is embodied in the Home’s culture.

The Center’s new 3,000 sq ft rehabilitation gym meets the growing national trend towards shorter rehabilitation stays and is outfitted with the latest and most sophisticated rehab equipment along with a fully equipped kitchen and laundry area. Spacious and full of natural light, this Rehab Gym provides a comfortable environment to receive therapy services and practice home management skills.

“The Shaw Home offers the most complete package for short-term rehabilitation in the region. Whether you have had elective knee or hip surgery or you have experienced an unexpected hospitalization and require short term rehabilitation therapy, our experienced interdisciplinary team will work with you towards your goal of returning home,” remarked Kristine Donnelly, Executive Director, “Our caring and dedicated staff look forward to making individuals feel comfortable and at home, while helping them resume their normal active lives and regain their independence following surgery or an illness.”

The opening of this short term rehabilitation center completes a $16 million expansion and renovation project that included adding 60,000 sq ft to the existing building encompassing an additional 52 private bedrooms with full private bathrooms in Household model, the expansion of services to include Short-Term Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing and a designated Memory Care Household, and the creation of eighty (80) new jobs.

“This was a large endeavor to undertake and we believe it exemplifies the Home’s commitment to the community-at-large to provide quality continuum of care for those who require these services,” remarked Home President Robert Desrosiers, “The Shaw Home has been serving and meeting the needs of Middleborough and the surrounding communities-at-large for over 73 years and we look forward to continuing to meet the ever changing needs of the community in the future.”

In addition to offering Short-Term Rehabilitation and Nursing services, the Home offers a designated 12 bed Memory Care Household for individuals who have been given the medical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or other recognized forms of dementia. This household features a secured outdoor walkway with garden area and gazebo for the person’s enjoyment. This is the first of its kind in the region. Other services areas include Long-Term Care, Respite Care, Hospice Care and Residential Care.
